Bevan’s Park will celebrate Northfleet's long and proud history. It will transform the cliffs behind Factory Road with trails leading through different zones from the top to the bottom. We have consulted local history experts and the local community about how we should celebrate Northfleet’s heritage.
There will be two entrances; one from Factory Road and the other across a new footbridge stretching from near Chimney View Park across the Tarmac Road cutting. On the top of the cliff will be a football pitch, wildlife glade. A heritage trail which will lead the way down the cliff to the heritage park. The changes in height will create different levels of exposure and viewpoints across the river and towards the High Street. The park will cater for the whole community with areas for lively activity and also a calm oasis for relaxation.
Through out the park subtle references will be made to Northfleet’s rich history. Low walls will pick up references to brick kilns and flint from the boundary wall re-purposed in paving details. Carts and historic kiln artefacts will be used to make planters. Along the heritage trail interpretation boards with pictures and information will provide an insight into the previous industrial uses and history of the area. The three tunnel entrances will provide striking, historical assets which will define the lower heritage park along with the flint wall which will form a backdrop to the quieter seating spacing surrounded by ornamental planting. The tunnels will be secured with a recessed railing to prevent direct access and vandalism. A "reserved matters" planning applications has been submitted to EDC for this part of the development.
